Three air crew members of WFP kidnapped in Darfur

Three Bulgarian helicopter flight crew working for the World Food Programme have been kidnapped by unidentified armed men in the Darfur region of Sudan.

The incident reportedly happened on Thursday morning  about 45 miles south-east of Geneina, the capital of West Darfur province.

Kemal Saiki, is a spokesman for the joint United Nations-African Union mission in Darfur.

“The helicopter was landing when a group of unidentified armed men threatened them with their weapons. Some of them had weapons. The crew: a pilot, co-pilot and the flight engineer had to disembark under the threat of these weapons and were taken away in a vehicle. The Sudanese have intervened. The sector tried to go after the kidnappers but apparently they did not succeed.”
