Workers check voter registration cards

The people of Southern Sudan have been voting for “freedom” and the dream of bringing “peace and development” to their homeland, according to a senior news editor of the UN’s radio station in Sudan. The South Sudan referendum for self-determination saw a high voter turn out from the first day. The outcome of the vote, which is due to finish on Saturday will determine whether Sudan splits into two countries or remains united. Jocelyne Sambira spoke to Nelson Lwak from Radio Miraya. She began by asking him how the referendum has been going.
