Gap widens between men and women in rural areas.

Out of the 500 million small-holder farmers worldwide who produce the bulk of the world’s food, women are the ones who do most of the agricultural work, according to the International Fund for Agriculture, IFAD. Not only do women farmers do more, but they face more challenges than their male counterparts.Furthermore, a new UN report shows that gender discrimination accounts for the difference in pay between men and women, both in industrialized nations and developing economies. Rosemary Vargas-Lundius, a senior Research Coordinator for the International Fund for Agriculture or IFAD spoke to UN Radio’s Jocelyne Sambira about the gender disparities and what can be done to address the problem.
