Central Emergency Response Fund targets $450 million for 2011
Member States of the United Nations have been urged by the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to continue to give generously to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) so that it can meet its target of $450 million for 2011.
Mr. Ban told a replenishment conference on Tuesday that the Fund is at the forefront of responding to disasters.
Since it was created five years ago, he added, nearly $1.8 billion has flowed through the Fund to help millions of people in need.
This year alone, $44 million in CERF funding has been used in 44 countries.
“The Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) is a fund by all countries, for all countries. It is helping us to ensure that those who need our assistance receive it quickly, effectively and efficiently. Today, at this replenishment conference, I ask you all to continue to give generously so we can meet our target of $450 million for the coming year.”
