Celebrating Chinese Language Day at UN Headquarters

More than 190 countries are members of the United Nations, making the organization’s New York headquarters a modern-day Tower of Babel. In conference rooms, cafeterias, and even in the corridors, you can hear a multitude of languages being spoken by native and non-native speakers. Recently, UN staff celebrated Chinese Language Day with exhibitions featuring calligraphy, poems and traditional songs. UN Radio’s Laura Powell attended the festivities. But before venturing out, she spoke to Maoqi Li, head of UN Radio’s Chinese unit, about the importance of his mother tongue.
