The issue of human rights as it relates to HIV and AIDS
Every year on December 1, countries observe World AIDS Day. It is a chance to show solidarity with those who have HIV and AIDS, and also to remember those who have died from the disease. But World AIDS Day is also an opportunity to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS to prevent more infections.
This year, people are being urged to protect themselves from HIV transmission and also to fight prejudice against those who have the HIV virus or AIDS. So in the programme we will look at Universal Access and Human Rights.
Joining us are three people who have been on the frontline of the battle against HIV and AIDS issue:
Eric Sawyer is with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, or UNAIDS;
Francisco Ramirez has been a trainer in the field of HIV education for 14 years;
And, joining us by phone is Kent Klindera of AmFAR: the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
