Indonesia has launched its largest census ever. In a diverse nation of 17,000 islands, it’s a huge undertaking. Current estimates project the total population at more than 230 million people. But the challenge of running a census here is about more than sheer numbers.

Uzbekistan boosts child survival with simple changes

Doctors and parents in Uzbekistan are seeing the benefits of small but significant changes in health care services which are helping to boost the survival rate of children under five. The programme is being tested in hospitals at the primary care level and in remote rural clinics across this central Asian nation. The changes are already proving a success at one medical centre in eastern Uzbekistan.

At the United Nations Day celebration in New York, a concert was held and the General Assembly hall once again resonated with music. The concert was sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the UN. Under-Secretary-General Kiyo Akasaka of the Department of Public Information and Communication was master of ceremonies.
