A panel discussion on the UN’s newly created entity for women
Last month, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon introduced a new entity – UN Women – headed by former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, to oversee all programs aimed at promoting equality for women.
UN Women, which will merge the UN Development Fund for Women, the Division for the Advancement of Women, the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues, and the UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women, is set to officially begin its work in January 2011.
This edition of Perspective features a panel discussion about this new UN body with Aparna Mehrotra, the UN’s Focal Point for Women; Edith Lederer, a correspondent for the Associated Press and Cora Weiss, President of the Hague Appeal for Peace.
