London conference seeks international support for Afghanistan

Sustained peace and stability in Afghanistan are what the international community was seeking when it met in London at the end of January to move forward the international effort to help the country. Some 70 nations were in London to explore how to build on achievements so far. Representing the United Nations, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon described how the international community can better respond to Afghan needs. In addition, Prime Minister Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom and President Hamid Karzai as well as other world leaders outlined their plans to support.

Millions of women work overseas each year – almost half a million from Nepal alone. The money they send home is supporting their families but sometimes the women are cruelly exploited. Now, Nepal is helping its female migrant workers fight for their rights in this report from UN Television.
