Gaza topped the agenda of the UN Security Council this week, where several Asian nations expressed their concern over the deteriorating situation there. For two days the chamber’s 15 member states met to debate the conflict between Israel and the militant group Hamas that has been going on for nearly two weeks, and which has claimed hundreds of casualties. On Tuesday, the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, delivered a message to the Council from what he characterized as “a wounded people living a new tragedy through destruction, killing and siege.”
