UN Envoy secures release of child soldiers in Nepal

About 3,000 child soldiers will soon be released from the camps of former Maoist fighters in Nepal.

The announcement came at the end of a week-long visit to Nepal by Radhika Coomaraswamy, the UN's Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.  Speaking from Kathmandu, Ms. Coomaraswamy gives the details of the agreement she secured from the Maoist-led government.


AIDS epidemic in Asia


According to UNAIDS, an estimated nine million people in Asia have been infected with HIV and millions of them have died of AIDS related-illnesses.  On the occasion of World AIDS Day, December 1st, Dr. Victor Mari Ortega, Deputy Director of UNAIDS, talks about the AIDS epidemic in Asia. 



Young Australian attends Congress on protecting children

 from sexual exploitation


Nearly 300 adolescents from 96 countries went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week to participate as delegates in the 3rd World Congress against Sexual Exploitation of Children.  The young people worked directly with international organizations and governments to help shape future strategies for combating child sexual exploitation.   We meet one of them, Rebecca from Australia.
