World leaders gathered in Rome this week for a global conference on food security have called for more agricultural investment in the developing world.

The International Labour Organization (ILO)warns that because of Cyclone Nargis, forced labor in Myanmar could increase.

Participants at the annual conference of the ILO have expressed concern that the Myanmar government may use forced labour to rebuild following Cyclone Nargis, which devastated the country at the beginning of May. In a report presented to the meeting being held in Geneva through June 13, Steve Marshall, the ILO Liaison Officer in the country, said both government and aid agencies should be conscious of increased risks of forced labour, child labour, human trafficking and migrant labour.

World Environment Day, June 5.

New Zealand, one of the first countries to pledge a carbon-neutral future, served as the main host of World Environment Day.
