MINUSTAH Sponsors Irrigation Project in Haiti

The United Nations Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) has financed a project in the central plateau area of Haiti allowing for the construction of two fish farms, 300 meters of irrigation canals, and 500 meters of packed earth irrigation canals, which resulted in a greater yield of agricultural products in the region.

Internally-Displaced Persons Receive Medical Assistance in Kutum

The civilian population in Kutum today received the first humanitarian assistance since the area was attacked on 1 August. A school in the surroundings of the village has been used as a provisional medical centre. A medical team, formed by the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), World Health Organization (WHO), the NGO Goal and the Government of Sudan, assisted about 200 people, mostly women and children with injuries from the attacks and other kind of diseases due to the lack of food and potable water.

UNAMID Opens Clinic and Schools in North Darfur

Local boys peek inside the new clinic in Kuma Garadayat, which was a constructed by the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID). This clinic is one of six development projects, known as Quick Impact Projects, in the areas of education, sanitation, health, community development, and the empowerment of women. The projects (the clinic, a women’s centre, and several schools) have been implemented by UNAMID peacekeepers from Senegal.

UNMIT Partners with Community to Bring Medical Care to Border District

A medical team, coordinated by the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) and Timorese military, travelled to the Oecusse District on the border area between Timor-Leste and Indonesia, to deliver health care to the local people. 618 patients received malaria testing, vaccines, medication, and other kinds of care during the team’s visit.

The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and Haitian non-governmental organization, OPC, are working together on a Quick Impact Project to rehabilitate the potable water system in the town of Saut d'Eau in central Haiti.
