Elaine Collett, wife of kidnapped correspondent Alec Collett, speaking at a solemn meeting of the United Nations Correspondents' Association (UNCA) held for her husband. Mr. Collett, who is honorary President of UNCA, was kidnapped in Lebanon on 25 March 1985 while on a writing assignment for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The Staff Union and the Secretary-General this afternoon held a brief ceremony to launch a new phase in the efforts to win the Freedom of United Nations staff members who are missing, restricted or detained in various parts of the world. The focus of the event was on Alec Collett, who was abducted in Lebanon on 25 March 1985.
