In Laos, a small kingdom in Southwest Asia, ninety percent of the population lives in rural areas. Many upland tribes follow the slash and burn form of farming. They clear the forest by cutting small trees and burning the refuse. After the land has been exploited for a few years, the people migrate to a new area.
