Disembarkation of Indian Troops Recalled from the Congo
In March, some 2,400 officers and men, part of the Indian UN Congo (ONUC) contingent, were recalled to strengthen India's own defences. The Indians were replaced by reinforcements from Indonesia. The homebound troops were flown to Mombasa, where they embarked on a US naval vessel and they arrived in Bombay on 25 March.
The Union Defence Minister, Mr. Y.B. Chavan, welcomes the troops after they have disembarked in Bombay.
