The Government has instituted a programme of social development in Togo, which includes establishing multi-purpose social service centres to raise the standards of living and to increase the well-being of individuals, families and the community. A United Nations project to assist the Government was begun in 1961 and, since then, three social welfare centres have been founded in Togo. UN experts also have been aiding the formulation of a national social welfare programme and training its personnel.
