UN Secretary-General Issues Statement on Mission to Peking
UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld left New York by air this afternoon for London, on the first leg of his mission to Peking, where he will attempt to secure the release of all UN Command personnel detained against their will by the Chinese People's Republic, including eleven United States airmen sentenced to prison terms on espionage charges. Before his departure from UN Headquarters, the Secretary-General issued a statement, while movie and television cameras recorded the proceedings.
