Events in Cyprus in July and August forced almost a third of the Island's population to flee their homes. The UN Peace-keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are assisting in the evacuation.
As a result of talks held on 11 November between the leaders of the two communities, about 1,100 Greek Cypriots are being evacuated from the villages of Gypsos and Vone in the Famagusta district. An elderly evacuee from the village of Gypsosbeing carried on a stretcher to an ambulance as she was being evacuated to Government held area.
