Opening Session of Conference on Arms Trade Treaty
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (second from left) addresses the opening session of the UN Conference on an Arms Trade Treaty. Mr. Ban said it was “long overdue” that “Member States are gathering at the United Nations to negotiate a treaty regulating the international conventional arms trade.” The conference aims to produce “a robust and legally binding” treaty, and is scheduled to continue at UN Headquarters through 27 July.
