Thanks to Improved Security, UN Office Makes Move to Somalia
Augustine Mahiga (front, right), Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), addresses troops and officers from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) following his arrival in Mogadishu.
Thanks to significant security improvements within Mogadishu, Mr. Mahiga and UNPOS have moved permanently to the Somali capital from neighbouring Kenya, marking the first time in seventeen years that the UN has established a full-time in-country presence in Somalia.
