Secretary-General Urges Action to Close Gap on MDGs
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launches the 2011 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Gap Task Force report entitled “The Global Partnership for Development: Time to Deliver”, which assesses progress on global funding toward the goals. Though Mr. Ban commended donor nations’ increased contributions last year, he highlighted the widening gap that still exists between what was promised for development and what is being delivered, urging that in times of economic distress, “we cannot afford to leave the poor even further behind”. At the press conference Mr. Ban was joined by Jomo Kwame Sundaram, Assistant-Secretary-General for Economic Development.
