Peacekeeping Reinforcements Arrive in Abyei

The first of 125 Indian Force Reserve Battalion troops arrive by helicopter. They will reinforce United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) forces already on the ground in Abyei, the main town of the disputed Abyei area on the border of Sudan and newly independent South Sudan. The violence that erupted there on 20 May has displaced thousands of people.
