25th Anniversary of Chernobyl Marked with Peace Bell Ceremony

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rings the UN’s iconic peace bell to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine. An explosion at Chernobyl's nuclear plant on 26 April, 1986, released unprecedented amounts of radioactive contaminants into the air, caused several deaths and mass evacuations.
