An experiment in resettling refugees in an abandoned Greek village has been launched at Riziani, Greece, by the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and the Greek government. Local officials, voluntary agencies and religious communities contributed either in kind or in services to this modest but interesting project. Funds were granted by the Ford Foundation to buy tools and equipment. Though the early stages of the experiment were very difficult and there is still room for more pioneering work, the first indications of success are appearing and the village is once more “coming to life”.
