UNEF contingents continue to be deployed along the Armistice Demarcation Line in the Gaza Strip and in the Sinai Desert. Troops from the ten nations which make up the United Nations Emergency Force first began to arrive in Egypt in November 1956. Today, they number some 6,000 officers and men. Here, Major General E.L.M. Burns, Commander of the UNEF forces, accompanied by Staff Officers watches a trench being dug by Finnish soldiers at one of their outposts.
