Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld left New York this afternoon for "exploratory talks" in Cairo. He is scheduled to reach Egypt Thursday afternoon, 21 March.
This picture shows Mr. Hammarskjold holding an informal press conference, just before boarding his plane at Idlewild Airport. In reply to questions, he said he expected to be away for ten days or a fortnight, adding that there was no “set agenda” for the forthcoming talks. He also declared it was possible he might also visit Jerusalem.
