Security Council Unanimously Adopts Resolution 1272
Penny Wensley(Australia) addresses the Security Council during a meeting in which it unanimously adopted resolution 1272 (1999), establishing the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) for an initial period up to 31 January 2001. UNTAET will consist of a governance and public administration component, with up to 1,640 international police officers; a humanitarian assistance and emergency rehabilitation component; and a military component of up to 8,950 troops and up to 200 military observers.
