United Nations Angola Verification Mission Helps Support Demining Process in Angola
Over 15,000 civilians are killed or maimed by anti-personnel mines every year. The United Nations Angola Verification Mission (UNAVEM III) was established to facilitate the restoration of peace and the process of national reconciliation in Angola. As part of UNAVEM's mandate, demining schools were established to train and aid in the process of disarmament and arms control.
