The twenty-second session of the Statistical Commission met today at UN Headquarters and will continue through 16 March. The 24-member body, one of six functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council, provides guidance on the statistical activities of the Organization by recommending policy to the Council and the Secretariat on gathering statistics and setting standards to make them more comparable internationally. The Commission, which meets every two years, last met in New York in January 1981.
