Security Council Meets on the Situation in Lebanon
The Security Council met today at the request of the Soviet Union to continue consideration of the situation in Lebanon. The United States vetoed a Soviet draft resolution calling for a ban on the supply of arms to Israel until it fully withdrew its forces from all Lebanese territory. The vote on the Soviet draft resolution was 11 in favour, with United States voting against, and three countries abstaining (Togo, United Kingdom and Zaire).
