The first elements of the first new United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) arrived in Cairo on 26 October 1973, the day after the adoption of the Security Council Resolution setting up the Force.
UNEF Commander Lieutenant General Ensio Siilasvuo of Finland visited Suez area today and paid a courtesy call on the Governor–General, M. Badawi El-Khouly. He attended a parade by the Finnish battalion and had lunch with them as they observed their National Day. Here, General Siilasvuo is seen conversing Colonel Reino Raitasaari, Commander of the Finnish battalion.
