Following the Security Council resolution of 14 July l960 authorizing UN military assistance to the Republic of the Congo, soldiers from a number of nations have been sent to help restore order and calm in the country. One of the countries to send contingents to make up the new UN Force was Ireland.
Before, their departure for the Congo, troops of the 32nd Infantry Battalion are seen preceded by their colour party, parading past the saluting base at the general post office in Parnell Square in Dublin.
