The Brazilian Navy troopship "Custodio de Mello" arrived at Port Said Saturday, 2 February, bringing the main Brazilian contingent for the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) and about 310 tons of equipment. The Brazilian battalion, including an advance party which arrived by plane in January, totals some 500 officers and men under the command of Colonel Garcilio Pessoa.
Immediately after their arrival the Brazilian troops were greeted by Major General E.L.M. Burns, UNEF Commander, and Brigadier General Amin Helmy, liaison officer of the Egyptian armed forces with UNEF. They are seen in this photo, in that order, boarding the Brazilian troopship.
