Thailand's Representative Holds Press Conference at U.N. Headquarters
Prince Wan Waithayokon (at desk), Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations, answers a question from the floor during a press conference at U.N. Headquarters today. Earlier in the day, Thailand proposed that the recessed eighth session of the General Assembly be reconvened to consider placing upon its agenda as an additional item the Thai request for the dispatch of U.N. observers which was vetoed by the Soviet Union in the Security Council on 18 June. With regard to the date of the proposed recall, Prince Wan explained that his Government wished to wait and see what developments occurred at the Geneva conference, stating that "Thailand would be the first to welcome a satisfactory settlement of the situation in Indochina, because we are as anxious as any other nation that peace should be re-established in that region".
