On 6 October 1973 hostilities broke out again in the Middle East. The Security Council held several urgent meetings and on 22 October called for a cease-fire. Three days later, on 25 October, it decided to send a 7,000-man U.N. Emergency Force (UNEF) to the area to observe the cease-fire and to do its best to prevent a recurrence of the fighting.

WO-2 Gunner Andersson (Swedish Battalion) and his 3 1/2 year-old female German Shepherd "TOFFA", mine-sniffing dog, one of several brought to the area by the Swedish Battalion are seen behind three types of Egyptian mines. The dog was demonstrating its ability to sniff mines at a Mine Training Course given to Engineering Officers from all UNEF contingents as well as logistic teams to learn about various types of Egyptian and Israeli mines.
