United Nations Emergency Force in the Middle (UNEF II)
On 6 October 1973 hostilities broke out again in the Middle East. The Security Council held several urgent meetings and on 22 October called for a cease-fire. Three days later, on 25 October, it decided to send a 7,000-man U.N. Emergency Force (UNEF II) to the area to observe the cease-fire and to do its best to prevent a recurrence of the fighting.
