The Amazon rain forest is at the crossroads between development and preservation. Until this century a complex ecosystem of plant and animal life safely flourished beneath the Amazon’s tree-cover umbrella. This natural balance is now threatened by recent commercial and demographic expansion. Timber has replaced rubber as the mainstay of the Amazon's economy.

Description
If deforestation were to go unchecked, one-half of the Amazon could be destroyed in a matter of years and the plant-life that supplies the oxygen we all breath would disappear as well. This film documents the efforts Brazil is taking to resolve the conflict between economic development and the conservation of its resources and looks towards the future with a joint experiment between Brazil and the United Nations Development Programme now underway in the Tapajos National Forest.
