“It is true that this is my story, the book has my picture on it, but it’s not only about me, this is about a cause. It is about a community that suffered. It is about all the women around the world that go through this, so when everyone that reads this book should keep that in mind.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Northern Kurdish) Nadia Murad, UNODC Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking:
“For the past three years I have been going around and asking the UN and other organizations in various countries to help my people with simple things, food, tents, things that can help them survive in those IDP camps. But now that our homeland has been liberated from ISIS, 300,000 Yazidis in those IDP camps would like to return to their homes. With that being said, the priority for Yazidis right now is security, being able to go back home and feel safe again and not fear another attack on them. And the reconstruction of their homes, where everything was destroyed by ISIS. Simply they are not able to go back home today because our homes are destroyed. Yazidis do want to go back home and be able to take their land back again, because if we do not do that, Yazidis might disappear in the near future from that region.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Gloria Steinem, Feminist Activist:
“It is crucial in labour organizing and negotiations, in peace negotiations, that for cultural reasons, not in any intrinsic superiority or inferiority, for deep, deep, deep, cultural reasons, it is crucial to have women at the table. And often it is the women on either side of a conflict who can make peace when the men cannot.”
