STORYLINE:

Japanese comedian and an internet star Kazuhito Kosaka also known as Pikotaro performed at the United Nations Headquarters on the sidelines of a high-level political forum on sustainable development.

Pikotaro, the star of a music video Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen which generated almost 130 million views on Youtube so far, adapted his famous song in order to support the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ranging from ending world poverty to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls by 2030.

He performed the adapted version together with the students of the United Nations International School (UNIS) wrapping up a day-long string of events dedicated to promoting the SDGs.

Earlier in the day, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reported that the rate of progress in implementing goals in many areas is far slower than needed to meet the targets by 2030.

Pikotaro’s performance at the UN’s Headquarters was hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
