STORYLINE:

The United Nations condemned the recent clashes in Kidal town of Mali, between forces of The Platform Movement and the Coordination of movements of Azawad (CMA), both of which are signatories to the country's peace agreement.

The fighting which erupted on 21 and 22 July between the two armed groups is the first violation of the ceasefire since September 2015.

The UN mission in Mali (MINUSMA) has deployed more than 90 percent of its military personnel and police in the north of the country to ensure the safety of the civilians.

According to press, Mali declared a ten-day state of emergency after the fighting and a three-day national mourning period for the people who had lost their lives.
